*Back to life.. Back to reality.. I know its been a while gadgeteers, but I’m back and I have some good news to share. There has been a lot going on in the wonderful world of gadgets, especially with the Big Apple. Today, Apple has released its newest line of the the iPods at their annual September event. And none other than Steve Jobs himself was there to do the introduction. Still looking a bit frail, he successfully recovered from a recent liver transplant and seems to be well on the way to recovery. So we will just delve right into this. The iPod Touch was released today with upgraded memory. Now it can hold up to 64GB of Media. This was no surprise since Apple is known for increasing storage space at every event. What was surprising, however, is that there was no camera attached to the back like many had anticipated. There were several game developers there, however, to show off their contributions to Apple’s own App Store. They also decided to drop the price of the iPod Touch 8GB to 199.00, with the 16GB being 249.99, the 32GB being 299.99 and the 64GB being 399.99. Don’t be surprised if the next Iphone has 64GB of memory. Apple also introduced the newest iPod Nano. This is where things start to get interesting. This is where the video comes in. Yes, apple has made it possible to record video on the iPod nano. There are several versions as well, and a price cut. In addition, they’ve added an FM transmitter, so you can still listen to the radio, and a voice recorder. Not bad! Next was news on the Ipod Shuffle. Basically, not much was done here, since they just introduced the newest shuffle this past March. But they did introduce colors, and a price cut, they also have a limited edition Shuffle that looks like chrome. They also increased the size of the iPod Classic to 160GB, but kept the same price of 249.99. Apple also released ITunes 9, which single handedly will change the music industry, again. This time Apple has decided to let the major labels jump into the game and release upgraded versions of the albums. Apple is calling the product, ITunes LP. Albums will include upgraded content such as videos and live performances. It would be hot if they could implement the digital booklet as an actual booklet whose pages can be digitally turned by the reader… we will see. I just downloaded it, and it seems cool, but I’m sure there are some things buggy about this iTunes as well. Time will tell. Oh and one more thing, Iphone 3.1 was released today and it basically fixed a few bugs but also allowed for the downloading of ringtones directly to the phone. I downloaded one, just to see what it was like and,eh, it’s aight. If you have Mac, I advise just using Garage Band to create your own. But the ringtones are 1.29, which is ironically less for more. I pay 1.29 for a whole single, and Apple wants me to 1.29 for a 15 second snippet. Uhh yeah that will be my first and last downloaded ringtone. So what do I think about all the changes that occured today On the iPod Touch- Nothing really new, I was waiting on them to add the camera on the back, too. On the iPod Nano– I like this one; its an all in one without the bulk. Could be my next purchase. On Ipod Shuffle- Well, I guess colors were coming at some point, but I would think that they would have introduced more colors for the iPod Touch ITunes 9- I still gotta play with it, but I’ll do a full review next week, along with Mac’s new operating system update codenamed Snow Leopard. So, overall I would give this event a B-, it would have gotten a C, but Steve Jobs appeared, so you gotta give him a round of applause just for showing up. Stop by next week when I give the Snow Leopard and iTunes 9 Review, and thanks for taking the time out of your day to read this, I really appreciate it.
