*Former TV star Maia Campbell became a top ten trending topic on Twitter yesterday after WorldStarHipHop.com posted a video that showed what they claim is the actress-turned-prostitute on a drug-induced rant in Compton, Calif.
The 32-year-old actress is best known for her role as Tiffany Warren in the sitcom “In the House,” which starred LL Cool J and ran from 1995 to 1999 – first on NBC, then UPN.
In 1997, she recorded an album with Atlantic Records. At the time, she described her musical style as “cerebral soul.”
The future appeared to be bright for the rising star. But in the years since “In the House” was cancelled, there were various reports that Campbell had developed a serious addiction to crystal meth and had even become a prostitute to support her habit.
Campbell, 32, is the daughter of late author Bebe Moore Campbell, who authored the three New York Times bestsellers, “Brothers and Sisters,” “Singing in the Comeback Choir” and “What You Owe Me.”
She died of brain cancer in 2006. Maia can be heard saying, “I lost my mother,” in the midst of her expletive-filled, rambling comments on the video. The Twitterverse responded quickly with the trending topics “#Maia Campbell” and “#pray4maiacampbell” among the top 5 at press time.
Actress Holly Robinson Peete (@hollyrpeete) was among the many tweeting out of sadness and concern for the actress. She wrote: “Hope Maia Campbell being trending topic can get her HELP IF that’s really her in that video. (Amen – that video hurt my ?!)”
