april_ryan(2009-headshot-med)*April Ryan, White House correspondent for American Urban Radio is making it known to the powers that be that she’s no joke.

Lately Ryan has been getting under the skin of White House press secretary Robert Gibbs because of the recent security breach that allowed the now infamous dinner crashing event by broke Washington socialites Michaele and Tareq Salahi.

On Wednesday, Ryan followed up on the incident which led to a rather heated exchange between her and Gibbs who essentially compared her to a petulant child.

Specifically, the back and forth was sparked by Ryan’s insistent questioning of White House social secretary Desiree Rogers’ role at the recent state dinner, which has been in the headlines because of the fallout from the Salahi’s White House adventure.

Ryan claimed that there have been whispers around Washington insinuating that Rogers had overstepped the traditional role of her title at the event to become the “belle of the ball,” thus “overshadowing the first lady.” Gibbs, who clearly wanted to change the subject, told her to “calm down” and to take a deep breath,” adding “I do this with my son and that’s what happens.”

As the press corps cringed, murmured and chuckled at Gibbs’ chastising, that’s when Ryan shot back: “Don’t play with me.” Watch it here:
