*The funeral for the late civil rights pioneer and politician Percy Sutton will be held next Wednesday morning (Jan. 06, 2010) at Manhattan’s Riverside Church, reports NY1 News.

Services are set for 11 a.m. next Wednesday at the Riverside Church, just before the State of the State address in Albany.

The son of a slave, Sutton opened a law office in Harlem, where he represented Malcolm X and his family.

Sutton also broke racial barriers as a state assemblyman and the longest-serving Manhattan borough president.

He died Saturday at the age of 89.
