*Spies for the New York Post’s Page Six spotted Denzel Washington spending two hours at New York’s Strand bookstore Tuesday afternoon accompanied by a personal shopper.

Dressed in sweats and a Yankees cap, the actor told managers he was redecorating his New York apartment and didn’t want to rely on a decorator to choose books to fill one of the rooms.

The Oscar winner and participant in tonight’s Hope for Haiti Now telethon bought more than 300 titles, including the novel “Ota Benga: The Pygmy in the Zoo,” which he once tried to option, and biographies of historical figures, Page Six reported.

“Although he carries a Bible throughout his latest flick, ‘The Book of Eli,’ Washington didn’t buy the Good Book on his shopping spree,” the column noted.
