*RadioFacts.com is reporting that Donnie Simpson, the Washington DC radio legend and host of the Donnie Simpson Morning Show on WPGC, will likely air his last broadcast on Friday after deciding to step down.
The one-time BET video jock has reportedly been in a pickle with WPGC management. According to RadioFacts, higher-ups attempted to boost sagging ratings of Simpson’s morning show by playing more current music and requesting that he override his “creative control” contract clause.
“It was perceived that Simpson and his son programming the music for the show was doing more harm than good,” the Web site reported. “As a result, Simpson has decided to walk this week ending a 32 year career and a long affiliation with WPGC.”
In addition, CBS will invoke the “non-compete” provision of Simpson’s contract, which bars him from working for another Washington-area station for the next 13 1/2 months.
The 55-year-old has hosted mornings at WPGC since 1993. Radio Facts reported that Simpson refused the station’s offer of having a big send-off party.
