In back-to-back matches on Rod Laver Arena, Venus lost to Li Na of China on Wednesday before her sister, Serena, came from behind to beat Victoria Azarenka of Belarus 4-6, 7-6 (4), 6-2.

Venus, who had been making headlines all week for wearing flesh-colored undershorts that made her appear to be bare-bottomed under her dress, was unable to secure an expected sister semifinal due to a mistake-filled match against Li, which included 110 unforced errors between the both of them.

Li called the win the “best day of my life” and said she might celebrate with a beer Wednesday night. The Chinese athlete, who is forecast to go into the WTA’s top 10 rankings after the tournament ends, was dominant in the third set when it counted against Venus, who has five Wimbledon titles and two at the U.S. Open.

“I don’t like losing at all,” Venus said afterward. “No one does. I put in a lot of hard work to come out here and get a win (I’m) not at all pleased.”
