*Singer/rapper/producer T-Pain executive produces and voices himself in his pet project for the past two years, “Freaknik: The Musical,” a one-hour animated special premiering March 7 on Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim.
Based on the real Freaknik, the sexually-charged black college street party in Atlanta held each year from 1983 to 1999, the TV-MA-rated cartoon follows students who are looking to bring the Spring Break tradition back, and T-Pain is the “party ghost.”
“Freaknik: The Musical” also features Andy Samberg, Lil’ Wayne, Bill Hader, Kelis, Snoop Dogg and George Clinton, among others. Lil Wayne voices the character Trap Jesus, who T-Pain describes as having “a Jesus-type aura to him.” Samberg portrays a “frat boy” while Kelis plays the role of Tyra Banks, whose television show T-Pain’s character appears on.
“Some people are going to hate it, some people are going to think it’s funny,” said T-Pain. “It was a gift. I always wanted to do a cartoon and I didn’t know it would be this good.”
