*”Precious: Based on the Novel ‘Push’ by Sapphire” was the big winner at the African American Film Critics Association in December, picking up awards for best picture, best director, best screenplay and best supporting actress, for Mo’Nique.

But the film’s star, Gabourey Sidibe, was snubbed as best actress in favor of Nicole Beharie from the lesser-known “American Violet.”

Following the vote, Roger Friedman of The Hollywood Reporter’s Showbiz 411 blog reported that the tally had been manipulated by the group’s president, Gil Robertson IV, to engineer a win for Ms. Beharie.

In return, Mr. Friedman suggested that Mr. Robertson was to receive payments from producers affiliated with “American Violet,” and wrote that the whole issue had sparked serious infighting among the group.

Well, now the association has splintered.
