*Forest Whitaker, in theaters now with Fox Searchlight’s “Our Family Wedding,” is in talks to star in the upcoming indie drama “Little Treasure,” due to begin shooting next month on location in Shanghai.

The story centers on an American couple who returns to the wife’s homeland of China, where they deal with prejudices, humor, cultural differences and self-discovery while meeting a Shanghai street kid who changes their lives.

The screenplay was penned by writer Josh Goldstein (Disney’s “Jungle Cruise,” “Fresh Prince of Bel-Air,” “Jamie Foxx Show”). Financing is coming from Belltower Entertainment and Amalgamation Entertainment. Michael D. Olmos (“Splinter”) is attached to direct.

Whitaker, meanwhile, is also in theaters Friday with “Repo Men.” Watch the trailer below.
