*A grassroots movement is garnering support from hip-hop mogul Russell Simmons in Brooklyn and Queens.

The New York Daily News reports the Peace Keepers Movement is campaigning to stop violence and crime through the presence of positive men in neighborhoods.

“For me, this is significant because I grew up here. Not too far from here, I sold drugs. I’ve had to change, and I’ve had leaders show me the way,” Simmons said at a rally in Queens

Dennis Muhammad, who started the efforts in Houston, founded peace Keepers. He believes changes have to be made through the leadership of strong, positive men, not through prisons and more police.
