*In a report released last week, the international human rights organization Amnesty International condemns the United States for inadequate maternal care for African American women.
The report found that Black women are nearly four times more likely than white women to die of pregnancy-related complications.
And in high-risk pregnancies, Black females are five and a half times more likely to die.
The report, titled Deadly Delivery: the Maternal Health Care Crisis in the USA, places the blame for the crisis on discrimination, a lack of nationally enforced treatment standards and barriers to proper maternal care such as poverty.
