Judge Ann Claire Williams

*The predominantly Black National Bar Association (NBA) has called on President Obama to name the first African American female to the United States Supreme Court.

Last week’s call comes on the heels of the announcement of the retirement of current Justice John Paul Stevens.

Stevens has been one of the high court’s most liberal justices and many civil rights, labor and progressive groups are pressuring Obama to replace him with another liberal and not compromise with Republicans who are pushing for a more moderate or even conservative replacement.

The NBA has recommended the nomination of Judge Ann Claire Williams – the first African American to serve on the 7th Circuit Court of Appeals and only the third Black to serve on any U.S. Court of Appeals. (source: Taylor Media Services – www.BlackNewsJournal.net )
