*Alpha Kappa Alpha – the nation’s first Greek-letter organization for African American women and one of the largest associations of Black women in the world – last week announced its annual convention has been scheduled for July 9 to 16 in St. Louis, Missouri at the St. Louis Convention Center.
Over 10,000 members are expected to converge on the city to mark the sorority’s second century of existence.
The theme of the gathering is “Second Time Around.” A bevy of luminaries from various industries are expected to attend. Ellen Sirleaf Johnson, president of the West African nation of Liberia and a member of the Sorority is among the high-profile leaders who will participate.
She will receive the International Service Award, the Sorority’s most prestigious honor.
