*The vision for designer Laura Smalls’ women’s collection is to design for today’s lifestyles.  And she hits it with every show!

Small’s Fall/Winter 2010 Collection took place at The Plaza Hotel to overwhelming acclaim by such front row A-list fashionistas as Vogue’s Andre Leon Talley, who presented the show, Robert Verdi, Amber Rose, Russell Simmons, Bethann Hardison, Tonya Lewis Lee, Spencer Means, Jocelyn L. Taylor, Walter Green, Whoopi Goldberg, Nick Ashford & Valerie Simpson and Janice Combs.

Smalls once said, “I love to have something beautiful in my line that resonates with someone special.  I hope you will find a garment you fall in love with.”  Well, what an understatement as the consummate designer’s latest fait accompli was nothing less than brilliant.

Smalls has fashion in her DNA and it gushed over – like an oil well — in her latest intimate presentation filled with engaging fashion.  Her use of faux fur, silk chiffon, lambswool and intricate beading popped on the runway rendering onlookers breathless.

The nostalgic show was a throwback to the days when fashion – not trends — ruled starting with the intimacy of the show in the posh Plaza Hotel in which each plush seat afforded invitational guests front row views. Neck stretching was not an option!

Fashionistas feasted their eyes on the designer’s beauteous Samauri gold sheath & bolero; embossed feathered trimmed jacket and sheath dress; magenta floral with beading detail; brown circle detail sheath with wrap; blue flamingo print wool jersey dress; and the black crepe with sequins.  The wildly popular Leopard Swing Coat was a big crowd pleaser garnering animal sounds from the stately onlookers.

Iradj Moini’s jewelry and Manolo Blahnik shoes added flattering finishing touches to the designer’s fresh collection.  Additional fashion credits belong to Warren Tricomi (hair), Andrew Sotomayar (key make-up artist) and Jason O. Parker (public relations).  (Photos by Audrey J. Bernard)
