*Chris Brown has a “consultant for philanthropic activities” who spoke to Billboard.com about his participation in next month’s “Virginia Stand Up! A Call to Action.”

As previously reported, the singer will headline and host the benefit concert on May 15 at the Siegel Center on the campus of Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond. Joining Brown for the show are Keri Hilson, Ryan Leslie, Mario, Juelz Santana, T-Pain, Tank and Trey Songz.

“He said, ‘I’d really like to do something that puts Richmond on the map and shows that they care about what’s going on in the world with other people,'” says Karen Lee, his philanthropic consultant. Brown also participated in BET’s Haiti telethon in February.

Tickets for Virginia Stand Up! A Call to Action are on sale at ticketmaster.com with prices ranging between $29.75 and $59.75. Half of the proceeds from the benefit concert will be given to the Greater Richmond Chapter of the American Red Cross for Haiti relief, and the other half will go to the Central Virginia Food Bank. Fans are also being encouraged to bring non-perishable food items that can be dropped off at marked receptacles at the venue.

“[Brown] felt good about both of those because it was going to do something for the people at home, and it was also going to do something for the Haitian relief efforts,” Lee says. “It’s been very important to him that this not be about Chris Brown, but that it’s about the city of Richmond giving back.”
