*The Obama administration’s Department of Agriculture last month reach a $1 billion settlement with African American farmers who had accused the government of decades of discrimination.

Thousands of farmers were set to benefit from the settlement and the checks were supposed to be delivered by March 31st.

However, Congress went on a two-week recess last week without appropriating the money to pay the Black farmers. Deputy Press Secretary Bill Burton issued a statement saying the White House is “working with Congress with some urgency to get this done as fast as possible.”

Meanwhile, the Black farmers are frustrated and angry. The president of the National Black Farmers Association John Boyd said, “The administration announced this settlement like this was all over, but we haven’t gotten a dime.” (source: Taylor Media Services)
