*It happened on April Fools Day, but it was no prank.
Birmingham native Anthony L. Williams Jr. had been eliminated on “Project Runway” last week, only to return in Thursday’s episode when another contestant decided to quit.
The judges brought back Williams, 28, after contestant Maya Luz said she did not feel like she was fully developed as a designer. She decided to drop out of the competition before designers started their new challenge.
“I have a second chance at greatness,” said Williams, before going on to tie for first place with Emilio Sosa in the episode’s challenge – designing a red carpet dress of host Heidi Klum.
Klum and her fellow judges, including guest Jessica Alba, all loved Williams’ black and white floor-length dress. “I think you are finally in your zone,” judge and designer Michael Kors told Williams.
While Sosa’s creation will be worn by Klum, Williams, 28, will have his frock worked by Alba.
On this week’s episode, Sosa, Williams, Nicolas Sario, Mila Hermanovski and Seth Aaron Henderson will compete in a challenge that determines which ones will compete at New York’s Bryant Park to win this season’s competition. The winner will be revealed on April 22.
The show airs on Lifetime at 9 p.m.
