*For the second consecutive week, a rap star has made headlines with ties to the Boston Red Sox.
Team member David Ortiz probably had on his special Red Sox line of Beats by Dr. Dre headphones when he got word that a lawsuit had been filed against him by hip hop mogul Jay-Z.
The lawsuit, filed Thursday (April 16) in Manhattan Federal Court, accuses Ortiz of naming his Dominican nightclub after Jay-Z’s chain of 40/40 clubs, which are located in Manhattan, Las Vegas and Atlantic City.
The rapper’s clubs are named after the feat of hitting 40 homers and stealing 40 bases in one season.
In the lawsuit, Jay-Z and his business partner claim Ortiz is calling his Santo Domingo club Forty-Forty in the hopes of trading on the rap star’s fame.
Jay-Z’s lawyer Peter Raymond tells the New York Daily News that Ortiz had visited the clubs twice and certainly had knowledge about them.
