Now Dallas Police Will Cite Badu for Disorderly Conduct

Singer faces $500 fine for going nude in city's Dealey Plaza

Erykah Badu

*Erykah Badu took all her clothes off, but Dallas officials have decided it is the city that feels stripped of its dignity.

After consulting with city prosecutors, the Dallas Police Department has decided that it will issue a disorderly conduct citation to the Grammy-winning artist for getting naked in Dealey Plaza last month.

Initially, police said they had no complaints about the taping of the video, and had no plans to pursue any charges. But after the video went viral Monday, the subsequent brouhaha made national headlines and became the subject of talk radio and the blogosphere.

While she didn’t commit a crime, having little children seeing her “nekkid”, might be alright for HER kids but, she crossed the line for me. Citing her for being public nudity seems fair to me.

  2. These politicians are something else. Now they want to use this incident as an excuse to line their pockets and take away more of our rights.

City officials say she failed to obtain the proper permits to produce the video.
Mayor Pro Tem Dwaine Caraway said Thursday that he wants to consider an ordinance levying tougher penalties, such as a big fine, on people who produce a for-profit film within the city limits without the proper permits.

But I get the impression that the cops not really down with it, but just trying to avoid stress from the politicians.

Dallas Police Deputy Chief Mike Genovesi, who oversees the special investigations division, said Friday that he expects that citation — about as serious as a traffic ticket — will be issued next week.
Disorderly conduct is a Class C misdemeanor. Police said the ticket will be mailed to Badu. She can choose to pay the fine or go to court.
    The fine: $500.

Simply put (in my opinion) what she did was totally disrepectful!!!! If she wanted to show off her dusty, nake behind, she should have gone to playboy. I don’t have kids and i was offended. I can’t believe she’s getting off this easy. Someone really should have caught her & beat her down. Just low class 4 sure!

It is all about receiving ATTENTION! Erykah has a new CD ot and she needs publicity to garner sales since, she is not exactly on the popular radar right now. She figures if Lady Gaga can do it so can she.
