*For years, Tiger Woods has been telling the story of how a racist incident on his first day of kindergarten went unchecked by his teacher. Today, that teacher came forward to declare the incident never happened, and she wants an apology.
In an interview Woods gave for a 2005 book written by Charles Barkley, the golfer says, “I became aware of my racial identity on my first day of school, on my first day of kindergarten. A group of sixth graders tied me to a tree, spray-painted the word ‘nigger’ on me, and threw rocks at me. That was my first day of school. And the teacher really didn’t do much of anything.”
Maureen Decker, who taught Tiger as a young cub, just held a press conference with her attorney Gloria Allred to say that what Tiger described never happened, and his lie has caused her to suffer from stress-related migraines, elevated blood pressure and colitis throughout the years.
“I am asking Tiger for a private and public apology to put my mind at ease and set the record straight,” Decker told reporters.
