*From more than 15,000 aspiring singers who auditioned in Lagos, Nigeria, Detroit, Philadelphia and New Orleans, 20 got the call to appear as finalists on BET’s gospel singing competition Sunday Best.
Two of the 20 are Jackson area residents.
The gospel music version of American Idol selected Ridgeland resident Dathan Thigpen and Madison resident Brittney Dear from thousands who auditioned in New Orleans to be part of the show hosted by gospel legend Kirk Franklin.
Rating their performances are Grammy-winning gospel singers Donnie McClurkin and Yolanda Adams and a team of judges that includes singing siblings Erica and Tina Campbell of Mary Mary.
