*The predominantly African American Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights last week joined with the Hispanic civil rights group National Council of La Raza (NCLR) to announce a boycott of Arizona to protest the state’s new anti-immigrant law S.B. 1070. Critics charge the law promotes racial profiling and is a threat to all minorities.

Specifically, S.B. 1070 requires law enforcement officers to stop and question anyone they “suspect” to be in the country illegally. The immediate target is Hispanics who have entered the country illegally.

And while Arizona Governor Jan Brewer has said racial profiling will not be allowed, it remains unclear how the law can be enforced without stopping and questioning people based simply on how they look. (source: Taylor Media Services)
