*The Pew Research Center for the People & the Press last week released the results of an interesting new survey gauging the reactions of the general population to certain words and phrases.
And while Americans have been taught for generations that capitalism (the “free enterprise” economic system) is good and socialism (greater government involvement is the economy) is bad, many people have not been convinced.
Overall, 29 percent of those surveyed reacted positively to the word socialism while 59 percent had a negative reaction. However, a majority of African Americans – 53 percent – had a positive view of socialism.
This compares to only 24 percent of whites who reactively positively to the word. The survey also showed that the lower a person’s family income, the more likely he or she would view socialism positively. (Taylor Media Services – www.blacknewsjournal.net)
