*The expected return of South African runner Caster Semenya next month will have to wait a while longer.

She was set to compete at an international track meet in Zaragoza, Spain on June 24, but the event was canceled due to a budget shortfall, according to the Associated Press.

Semenya still awaits the results of a gender verification test. The Zaragoza event would’ve been her first competitive race since she won the women’s 800-meter world title in Berlin last August.

The International Association of Athletics Federations has said the results of the Semenya case would be announced by the end of June.

The Zaragoza meet had been in financial difficulties in past years, with the Spanish track and field federation saying there was no chance of the meet returning this year.
