*Former New York Giants linebacker Lawrence Taylor was arrested early this morning in connection with the rape of a 15-year-old Bronx girl in the New York City suburbs.

According to the New York Post, Taylor allegedly beat and sexually assaulted the girl – a runaway whose meeting with the retired player at a hotel in Montebello, N.Y. was arranged by a pimp, a police source said.

On the drive back to the city, the girl was able to contact an uncle who called the police and took her to a hospital for an examination, the source said.

Taylor, 51, was taken into custody early Thursday after police knocked on his door at the Holiday Inn of Suffern, the source said.

A police news conference is expected to be held later this afternoon announcing a third-degree rape charge against Taylor, which involves having intercourse with a minor, according to police.

The Post reports:

Taylor lives in Pembroke Pines, Fla., but is believed to also have a home in New Jersey. He frequently drives up to Rockland County to play golf.

The teenager ran away from home several days earlier after getting into an argument with a parent and wound up bunking with a pal for several nights, the police source said. It was not clear how she wound up in the clutches of the pimp, but on Wednesday she found herself being driven to Rockland County for a romp with the legendary linebacker, the source said.
