*The multi-award winning indie comedy feature “Why Am I Doing This?” is playing a limited engagement at Laemmle’s Music Hall 3 in Beverly Hills Friday, May 14 to Thursday, May 20. Presented by Seminal Films, Stoddard Temple Prods. and Tri-Destined Studios (www.tridestined.com), “Why Am I Doing This?” recently won the Best Feature Film Awards at festivals in Houston and Philadelphia.
Credited by Variety as being a dead-on representation of what it’s like to be struggling talent on the Hollywood periphery, circa 2010, “Why Am I Doing This?” (www.whyamidoingthis.net) tells the story of talented but perennially down-on-their-luck, TONY CHANG, a struggling Asian American actor and LESTER NILES, a struggling African American comedian, who are best friends in Hollywood pondering the age-old question, “Why Am I Doing This?” while juggling relationships, family and the impending feeling of doom that they¹re never going to make it.
The cast includes Anthony Montgomery (TV’s “Star Trek Enterprise”), Emma Caulfield (TV’s “Buffy the Vampire Slayer”), Sheetal Sheth (“Looking for Comedy in the Muslim World”), Gerry Bednob (“40-Year-Old Virgin”), Joe Torry (“Poetic Justice”), Lynn Chen (“White on Rice”), Tony-nominated Valarie Pettiford (“Stomp the Yard”), Tony-nominated Obba Babatundé (“Introducing Dorothy Dandridge”) and Tamlyn Tomita (“Joy Luck Club”) just to name a few. The Boston Herald called the film “…a raucous look at life in Los Angeles for an actor.”
Directed, written, and edited by Tom Huang, the film is produced by N.D. Brown and Tom Huang, and Co-produced by Veronica F. Nichols and Jeff Lam. Co-executive producers are Trey Haley and Brian A. Roberts.
