Update…  The so-called “mystery guy” caught holding hands with Halle Berry in New York City Friday night are “old friends,” a source tells People.com. “The photographers were chasing them so he just instinctively grabbed her hand.”

As for her split with Gabriel Aubry, another unnamed source tells People: “She kicked him out months ago because he wasn’t able to pull his weight in the relationship and she wanted to move on.

“They’re very amicable in healthy ways because of their child,” adds the source referring to the couple’s 2-year-old daughter Nahla. “Her main concern is for the health and happiness of her daughter.”

Newly-single Halle Berry was spotted walking hand-in-hand with another man on Friday night.

She and her mystery date went to the Broadway play Fences, starring Denzel Washington.

Us magazine has been on Halle watch all weekend, reporting that the actress “seemed cheerful” and “was in good spirits” while at a charity event on Thursday and at the EIF’s Revlon Run/Walk for Women event for breast cancer in New York’s Times Square on Saturday. Afterward, Berry and a girlfriend stopped at eatery Rue 57 for a cheesburger.

Meanwhile, both Berry and Aubry have released statements officially announcing their breakup following a four year relationship.

“Berry and Aubry split some time ago,” her rep tells UsMagazine.com, “but remain close friends and committed parents to their daughter.”

Aubry acknowledged the split in a statement early Saturday:

“While I will not comment on all of the wild inaccuracies being speculated about in the media, I am sad to say that Halle and I have decided together to separate at this time. She is, and will forever be one of the most special and beautiful people that I have ever known, and I am certain that we will continue to have only love and respect for one another. We have been blessed with the most amazing daughter in the world, and her happiness and well-being are the most important thing for both of us. Please respect our privacy during this very difficult time.”
