*After Wednesday night’s state dinner at the White House for Mexican President Felipe Calderón, President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama and guests made their way to a tent on the South Lawn and told guests, “I know we just had a very formal dinner. But we heard that this was the place for the real party.”

Soon after, Beyonce – accompanied by her husband Jay-Z and introduced by Obama as “somebody some of you may have heard of”— performed for the mix of celebs and politicians, including Whoopi Goldberg, Eva Longoria Parker, George Lopez, and Olympic speedskater Shani Davis. [See photos below.]
The guest chef was Rick Bayless of Chicago, who is known for his creative interpretations of Mexican cuisine.
After dinner, reporters were escorted off the property before the after-party ever got to the dancing stage, notes the Associated Press. Obama declared it his mission to get Mexican President Felipe Calderon and his wife, Margarita Zavala, on the dance floor along with himself and Michelle.
Goldberg said she was “coming home after a long drought.” She had been a fixture at the Bill Clinton White House, but never attended during the George W. Bush years.
Davis, the skater, sported a green tie that he said was from Men’s Wearhouse, and he guessed that was where his suit came from too. Then he checked the label and announced, “Ralph Lauren.”
Other attendees included Gayle King and her date, Newark Mayor Cory Booker; and New York Jets players D’Brickashaw Ferguson and Mark Sanchez.
