Singer Alexis Houston held a New York press conference to deny any relationship with Today Show host Matt Lauer.

*Alexis Houston — the singer who claims to be Whitney’s cousin and held a press conference last week to deny an alleged affair with “Today” show host Matt Lauer — was reportedly born a man and used to call himself Wellington Houston.

The New York Post is reporting that Whitney Houston sued Wellington (whose original name was Stuart) in 1996 because he tried to pass himself off as her cousin. Whitney claimed Wellington used the false kinship to defraud an elderly New York doctor of $100,000 using credit cards and forged checks, the AP reported at the time.

The Post quotes one source who says Wellington had a sex-change three years ago after a man fell in love with him and paid for the operation.

“She told me they got married in Niagara Falls,” said the source, “but they have since separated.”

A May 13 report at Hollyscoop.com claimed Lauer had an affair with Alexis after meeting her on the “Today” show set in 2007. Both parties are denying the allegations, and last week Alexis appeared with her lawyer – who else but Gloria Allred – for a sidewalk presser to deny the affair.

“I feel that my privacy and personal space have been invaded,” Houston told reporters.
