Anamika Veeramani, 14, of North Royalton, Ohio, holds her trophy after winning the 2010 National Spelling Bee in Washington on Friday

*We have a winner! Anamika Veeramani, 14, was crowned champion of the 2010 Scripps National Spelling Bee on Friday upon successfully spelling “juvia” and “stromuhr.”

She battled it out in the final round with Shantanu Srivatsa of North Dakota. Along with a big, fat trophy, her victory earns her a $30,000 cash prize.

“I’m really, really happy. This is one of the best moments of my life,” Veeramani said.

A stromuhr, in case you were wondering, is an instrument designed to measure blood flow, and the flow of other viscous substances.

By the way, Cleveland Cavs star Shaquille O’Neal showed up at the spelling bee Friday and took the stage to issue a challenge. He wanted to have his own private spelling bee against last year’s champion, 14-year-old Kavya Shivashankar of Kansas. It was to be taped Friday afternoon and broadcast later on O’Neal’s reality TV show, “Shaq Vs.”

Showing off his prowess, he tried a bit of dazzle by spelling, to laughter, “k-i-t-t-e-n. Kitten.”
