*Now this is going to be interesting. A former kingpin, or boss drug dealer for those of you questioning the terminology, called “Freeway” Rick Ross is planning to file an injunction against guess who… heralded Miami rapper Rick Ross for guess why… stealing his name! The courts are so misused these days.
If you haven’t heard, the drug dealer was recently released from prison after serving a prison sentence for attempting to purchase cocaine from an undercover cop in ’96. He was sentenced to 20 years. Meanwhile, the rapper, born William Leonard Roberts II, has created for himself some substantial fame under the name, establishing an image of a big time drug dealer from Miami.
Freeway plans to stop the rapper from putting out another album set to release this summer.
“If William Roberts attempts to use the ‘Rick Ross’ name that he spent years
earning and spending time in prison to uphold, he will be met with an injunction,” Ross’ rep said in a statement. “Simple as that. This is not a publicity stunt, a game or a hoax, to sell some Rick Ross albums, as some have suggested. In fact, [Freeway] Rick Ross intends to halt the release of any Summer 2010 ‘Rick Ross’ album.”
But the madness doesn’t stop there. Also named in the suit are Jay-Z, Slip-N-Slide and Island Def Jam records.
This is definitely going to be interesting.
