Lt. General Russel L. Honore’

*Lieutenant General Honoré has dedicated his post retirement years to the cause of educating a nation how to see first, understand first and act first. This is the terminology that the thirty seven year army vet uses for Creating A Culture Of Preparedness.

Honore’ commanded the Joint Task Force-Katrina and led the Department of Defense response to Hurricanes Katrina & Rita in Alabama, Mississippi, and Louisiana . He had the dubious task of navigating the effort with military fervor and humanitarian zeal. He was also on duty during six other hurricane seasons from 1999-2002. He supported the Department of Defense planning and response to Hurricanes Floyd, Lilli, Isidore, Isabel, Charley, Frances, Ivan and Jeanne.

Lt. General Russel L. Honore’s highly decorated military career and domestic service have landed him among the honorees at this year’s McDonald’s 365 Black Awards which will be presented at the 2010 Essence Music Festival in New Orleans.

Before the Lakeland, Louisiana native dredged the waters of stateside weather disasters, he served in a variety of command and staff positions which focused on Defense Support to Civil Authorities and Homeland Defense. Lt. General Honoré also planned and supported the United States military response to the devastating flooding which swept Venezuela 1999 and Mozambique in 2000. As Commander, he planned and oversaw the military response to the Space Shuttle Columbia Tragedy and the DC Sniper Shootings among other strategic operations.

As for educational achievements, the Lt. General is highly acclaimed there as well. He earned his Masters Degree from Troy State University and Honorary Doctorates Southern University, A&M University, Stillman College and Virginia State to name a few. A Distinquished Service Medal, the Global War On Terror Service Medal and the Joint Meritorious Unit Award are just a few of the medals credited to the life and service of Lt. General Russel L.
