*President Obama has confirmed that Gen. Stanley McChrystal was relieved of his duty as Commander of U.S. Forces in Afghanistan, and will be replaced by Gen. David Petraeus.
Speaking Wednesday in the White House Rose Garden alongside Petraeus and Vice President Joe Biden, Obama said: “Today, I accepted General Stanley McChrystal’s resignation as commander of the international security assistance force in Afghanistan. I did so with considerable regret but also with certainty that it is the right thing for our mission in Afghanistan, for our military, for our country.”

Obama continued: “I’m also pleased to nominate General David Petraeus to take command in Afghanistan, which will allow us to maintain the momentum and leadership that we need to succeed.”
Petraeus, a four-star general, was McChrystal’s boss while serving as head of U.S. Central Command in charge of the whole Middle East theater.
Obama met with McChrystal for 30 minutes at the White House Wednesday morning after recalling him from Kabul to explain disparaging comments about Obama and his aides in Rolling Stone magazine. McChrystal left the White House abruptly after that meeting and was never seen returning.
Obama says he decided to replace McChrystal not because of a policy difference or “personal insult.”
“Stan McChrystal has always shown great courtesy and carried out my orders faithfully,” he says. “War is bigger than any one man or woman.” In addition, he says that Americans “should be grateful for General McChrystal’s remarkable career in uniform.”

Don’t let the doorknob hit ya’….etcetera…etcetera….Benedict Arnold-lookin’ mudda fukka….
thank god…Colonel Jessup is relieved of his command.
Cosign to both posters. I am glad Pres Obama acted accordingly.
Yea Barack had better got rid of this treasonous man.
Of course he had to go. He violated one of the most fundamental articles of the Uniform Code of Military Justice which helps to ensure that we remain a democracy and not succumb to military dictatorship.
Article 88:
Any commissioned officer who uses contemptuous words against the President, the Vice President, Congress, the Secretary of Defense, the Secretary of a military department, the Secretary of Transportation, or the Governor or legislature of any State, Territory, Commonwealth, or possession in which he is on duty or present shall be punished as a court-martial may direct.
But Obama is smart enough to recognize that this is a blessing in disguise as far as him getting out of the quagmire that is Afghanistan. McChrystal was the main problem, because he is the ultimate warmonger, and may not be one of the more mentally balanced generals. And we know Obama has this tendency of allowing Republicans to dictate how he rules. For example, the Republicans, being not that respectful of American democratic values, claims that the president needs to listen to his generals, an idea which the running dog media seems to support.
But for what? Our Democracy says that the military takes orders from the civilian government. We elected the Democrats to reverse the war mongering ways we had fallen into over the previous eight years. So why the fuck should the president listen to what the generals have to say. He needs to listen to we the people who elected him.
Petraeus is a much more balanced individual, and knows that there is no “wining” in Afghanistan. He made a fool out of McCain during the campaign, when McCain kept talking that crap about winning in Iraq.
The Administration keeps tellin’ us that we will be out soon. I’m not sure about the timetable that they gave us, but I hope that it is soon. I just don’t understand why they give us (the people) a timetable in the first place. When the time is right, they should just pull ‘em, and be done with it.
So what will this suckah be in charge of now? Or does be get a nice vacation before starting up his new digs?
Dawn, he’s going to be a fox news consultant and work with his fellow klansmen and women!
…yeah…ain’t it a coincidence that all of Obama’s arch-rivals (and there’s a lot of ‘em) end up slidin’ their slimy asses over to THAT network? It’s enough to make you say,”…hmmmm….”
smit, I don’t believe in coincidents!
Why Obama Had to Fire McChrystal
In the end, it was Obama’s only move. Keeping General Stanley McChrystal in place would have shattered the chain of command, obliterated the authority Obama had with the military, and undermined any hope of waging a successful counterinsurgency in Afghanistan.
No general could’ve taken Obama seriously, after getting dissed so publicly by McChrystal’s crew. No captain or sergeant could’ve been expected to shut up and salute when his superior officer gave an order. The guy at the top didn’t respect his commander; why should he?
The culture of accountability so meticulously built up by Robert Gates during his tenure at the Pentagon — gone. The long tradition of civilian control of the military — wrecked.
