*Diddy says he sees nothing wrong with giving his son Justin a $360,000 car for his 16th birthday in January.
In an interview with ABC’s “Nightline,” the rapper got defensive when asked if he thought it was appropriate for him to present Justin Dior Combs with a silver Maybach as his first car.
“I think it’s appropriate to give my kids whatever I want to give my kids,” he told Martin Bashir. “I feel the way I raise my children, I don’t have to explain to you or anyone else, ’cause nobody knows the way I raise my children.”
Without getting into details, Diddy suggested that he had talked about money with his brood.
“Nobody knows the lessons that I’ve taught my children to understand, if they are mentally ready for that,” he said. “It wasn’t even about a lesson; it’s what I wanted to do. I could do whatever I want to do and you can’t question me about it.”
Diddy’s lavish gift made headlines in February when it aired as part of MTV’s “My Super Sweet 16.”
Earlier on in the ABC interview, Diddy revealed that his children, all six of them, “deserved more (of his) personal time.” In response, Bashir suggested that having six children by different women was setting a bad example for his fans.
“All of my kids are taken care of,” Diddy responded. “They all go to the best schools.”

It was an extravagant birthday gift for a 16-year-old, but SO WHAT??? I remember back in the day when Puffy was nothing but a nobody concert-promoter. He has come a long way, and I’m sure he thinks about it every day.
There was a time when it was illegal for black folk to READ. Now, we’re doing stuff like this. Leave the man alone.
I wonder what kind of father Martin Bashir is???
I am not a Diddy apologist but, he went off on Bashir about his klds and with good reason, Martin Bashir was a bit outo of line with his questions toward Diddy, especially when he stated that having 6 kids by different women was a bad influence to his fans. yes, the Maybach was a very extrvagant gift but, it is his money and he can do as he pleases.
Bashir needs to take his butt back to Europe and investigate/report on the inbred British royal offspring
I am going to pay close attention to his kids as they grow up. I want to see if the lessons he taught paid off. Just in my experience they usually don’t.
Wilena, I agree. We are all in agreement it’s his money, yeah, all well and good, but what exactly are you teaching your son that at 16 without doing anything worthwhile to earn such extravagance, what exactly are you saying and where do you go next after getting a $360,000 car at 16? Supposed there comes a day when the enabling and lavishing can’t happen, then what? There’s a thin line; I hope he’s not creating a monster or worse.
I agree, but I also agree that it’s his business how he choses to raise his kids. It’s stupid though IMO for any parent to waste $400k on a car. Diddy is that “look at me” kind of brotha that if you really get down to the real deal on them you find that things ain’t really the way that they appear. I’m one who never believes in the so-called net worths of these entertainers because some of them are spending before they even get it & in debt up to their necks.
The only problem I have with this Diddy situation is the fact that he decided to have his son’s birthday party covered by MTV. Which opened the door for people to critize what he bought his son.
Rich white people have always purchased extravagant gifts for their kids and lets not get into the type of money those Saudi oil dudes spend on their male heirs.
So yep, Comb’s mistake was not the car. His mistake was flashing a personal family & friends event for a tv show.
Puff is right, besides, it’s his money and he can do whatever he wants with it.
