Video: Morris Day, The Time Dish Dirt about Prince

*All original members of legendary band The Time visited Detroit’s WJLB studios with COCO, Foolish and Mr. Chase in the Morning and quickly got to dishing dirt about Prince.

Morris Day, Jimmy Jam, Terry Lewis, Jerome Benton, Jellybean Johnson, Monte Moir, and Jesse Johnson, back together for the first time in over 25 years, told the morning show how Prince would send his bodyguards to ruff them up if they ever did something he didn’t like, but it didn’t work too often because there were always seven of them and only one bodyguard.

When Foolish asked if they ever beefed with Prince, Morris said “yes” and Jimmy Jam explained how members of The Time could fight their own battles, but Prince would send someone in to do his for him.

Jerome Benton chimed in saying “the bodyguard would walk lightly too…”

Is The Time coming out with new music? I would welcome it! But it’s a shame that they can’t let bygones be bygones, I am sure that an artist like Prince is egotistical and has his quirks, but without him there wouldn’t be a Time, in fact, most of the first album is Morris singing over music Prince created.

    • I wouldn’t exactly call this “dishing dirt”. Let’s be real..Prince used to be (and probably still is) a strange dude! To me, it was the “Time” being the “Time”. I’m sure they have some real funny stories to tell. They need to write a book. But in Prince’s defense, he doesn’t flaunt his strangeness. With all the paparazzi out there, you never heard a word about Prince.

    Was Pandemonium 25 years ago?!!!

    Damn, I’m getting old.

I hope they have a new album coming. They all went their separate ways around the world and did their own thing but, we’d all love it if they’d hit us off with another jam session really, really soon!

  4. Yeah, I was lucky enough to see them perform this past weekend at the Fox Theatre in Detroit. They did all the hits, didn’t realize they didn’t have a bunch of albums(or CD’s)OK, I’m dating myself here!!!! They had Jesse Johnson keep the crowd up while Morris did his wardrobe change, Jesse was straight up killing it with his guitar and according to Jimmy Jam, Jesse has some new music out, nowadays one has to go online to keep up with old schoolers, because if you’re not young, record companies treat you so wrong!!!
