*The White House held its first summit on the impact of HIV/AIDS on African American males last Wednesday.

It was a gathering of policy makers and religious leaders which highlighted evidence that the epidemic appears to be on the rise among Black men – especially Black homosexual males.

African Americans account for roughly 50 percent of HIV/AIDS cases nationwide. This is even though Blacks make-up only 13 percent of the nation’s total population.

Among males, officials estimate that one in every 16 Black males in the country will be diagnosed with HIV/AIDS at some point in their lifetime.

However, disproportionately, these men are homosexual and bi-sexual men. (source: Taylor Media Services – www.blacknewsjournal.net)
