Natalie Cole Memoir to Cover Transplant, Sister’s Death

*Natalie Cole is currently working on a memoir that will detail the months surrounding her successful kidney transplant that took place on the same day her sister Cookie died of cancer.

Publisher Simon & Schuster announced Monday that the book, “Love Brought Me Back,” is due in November with collaboration from David Ritz, who helped with memoirs by Ray Charles and Marvin Gaye.

Cole, who suffers from hepatitis C and had been undergoing kidney dialysis three times a week, was with her dying sister in May 2009 when she received a call from doctors saying a kidney was available from a donor and she should head to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles immediately for transplant surgery.

Cookie died while Natalie was having her operation.

I hope they can make a movie from this book and the movie starts off where her last movie about her life finished off that was a good movie has anyone seen this movie? The Natalie Cole story with Thersa Randle playing a young Natalie and then Natalie playing herself as a adult.

    • Yes I saw it when it first aired. I was shocked years ago to find out she had been a drug user (I think I found out when her mother petitioned for custody of her son. I’ve read several David Ritz biographies…this should be interesting.

I have seen the first biopic on Natalie, starring Natalie in later life. It was originally a broadcast network television movie and now can be seen in re-runs on Lifetime. The book was also tied in with a special CD release. Unfortunately, I think its initial airing did poorly in the ratings maybe that’s why it isn’t as easily remembered.
