*Wags are pointing out that if Wyclef Jean’s management of his charity, Yele Haiti, is any indication of his ability to govern, folks in Haiti are better off without him.
The New York Times is reporting that at least five of the several refugee camps that Jean’s Yele Haiti organization claims to be helping, say they have received no aid from the charitable organization – “not even a cookie,” one camp leader complains.
Other camps complain the group’s donations have been stingy, like a television that broke halfway through the World Cup; the charity, meanwhile, is housed in a $15,000-a-month property that includes two empty model homes for the homeless.
Meanwhile Jean dismisses the camp leaders’ complaints as “hearsay” and complains about the new scrutiny “at a time when I am trying to make a genuine difference.”
