*The bottom line question for Wyclef Jean is does he think he’s the right person for the job as president of Haiti? That query was posed to him by Islamic news outlet Al Jazeera.
It’s also especially relevant because more and more it’s looking like the Haitian born entertainer is not going to meet the residency requirement for the office.
His response was that Haitians “don’t need a local president, I think we need a global president, someone that can travel.”
Mr. Jean went on to stress that working with foreign donors on the rebuilding of Haiti would be a central part of the next president’s job. He also said that the contribution of the Haitian diaspora to the country’s economy and culture needed to be acknowledged and suggested that he could be a link between the two communities.
