*Could the Fantasia controversy have anything to do with her African features? A writer with Vibe asked the question to the suicidal Fantasia and she said yes!
The thing is, when other stars like Alicia Keys, LeAnn Rimes or Brittney Spears did their share of dirt and made some not so lady like decisions in their love life, their business was kind of pushed under the rug. Not so with Barrino.
Media swarmed around her sex/love affair with Antwaun Cook and the lawsuit with his wife Paula. There was so much drama, it was hard to keep Fantasia out of your mouth.
The singer says she’s dealt with a lot since her days on “American Idol.”
“I’ve battled and have had to deal with that before. Lord forgive me and I don’t want to offend anybody,” she says, “but when [I did Idol] it seemed like everybody there was Barbied out. Slim, long hair, light eyes, light-skinned. And here I come with my dark skin, full nose, short hair and full lips – it was hard.”
She added in the interview that she thinks that she is overlooked because of her un-Hollywood look.
“They never put me in those magazines [featuring] the red carpet. Everybody there has long hair and everybody is bright-skinned, and I was like, ‘But wait a minute. They never gave me that.’ That bothered me,'” said the singer. “And then I tried hard to find people to dress me and they still would not put me there [in those magazines]… One day I was like, ‘that’s okay’, but I had to get to that point. I am a dark-skinned, full-lipped sister and it’s alright.”
