*”American Idol” winner Jordin Sparks is scheduled to rejoin Broadway’s “In the Heights” tonight after injuring her hip during Act One of an Aug. 28 performance.
The singer, who made her Broadway debut as Nina on Aug. 19, managed to finish the Saturday night show but missed the next four performances: two on Sunday Aug. 29, as well the Aug. 30 and 31 shows, reports Playbill.
Understudies Courtney Reed and Gabrielle Ruiz are on standby for the sidelined star.
As previously reported, Sparks will play a limited 12-week engagement through Nov. 14 at the Richard Rodgers Theatre.
In the Heights, about the Latino neighborhood of Manhattan’s Washington Heights, features Sparks as college student Nina Rosario, who returns home from Stanford University for the summer — with a secret that shakes the foundation of her family’s American dream. Friends, family and a new love rally around her in the musical portrait of a changing neighborhood where multiple musical styles echo on the streets, spill from the windows and brew in the minds of its eclectic Latino characters.
