Tavis Smiley and Cornel West announce their new radio program
*On Oct. 1, a powerful pair will be premiering their very own and long awaited radio show called “Smiley& West.” Yes, Tavis Smiley and Cornell West will be joining forces to initiate what is anticipated to be one of the most dynamic shows radio has seen yet.
The two will explore some of the most provocative topics.
“Dr. West is a long-time friend and I am honored that he has agreed to go on this journey with me,” said Smiley. “This new venture, Smiley & West, will not only set the pace for tomorrow’s news but will be a conduit for the insightful conversation that America is thirsting for. I’m excited that alongside one of America’s greatest thinkers, we will encourage, enlighten and empower the listeners together.”
The weekly hour-long program will air on Public Radio International (PRI) affiliates nationwide. Guests will have the opportunity to tune in and comment about any issue, debate with, and disagree with Tavis and West.
“Many of America’s most important discussions aren’t necessarily happening in the boardroom or between the pundits on cable television,” West said. “Rather they’re happening at BBQs, cocktail parties, barbershops, and salons between real people. With this new endeavor, Smiley & West, Tavis and I hope to really tap into the concerns of everyday people.”

I hope I remember to find this show on the radio. Hearing SMART, INDEPENDENT, COURAGEOUS commentary will be a VERY welcome change from the run-of-the-mill koolaid offering currently dominating Black media.
Whether they know it or not, Black people NEED to hear an alternate perspective, esp regarding their beloved commander-in-chief, the one who tells them to “stop whining” and “buck up” when they dare speak an utterance of dissent.

This may be the best thing for Obama, to have someone with the integrity of Cornel West along with Tavis Smiley holding him accountable. Someone to remind him of the type of president which his supporters expected him to be. Right now, no one is doing that. White people are scared to criticize Obama out of fear of being called racists. Rachel Maddow and Keith Olbermann are almost playing the role of lap dogs. Even Ed Shultz is doing little more than toeing the party line.
Obama needs to be reminded that he was not elected to appease the right.
Every day there is some new Obama policy mirroring or even outdoing the unconstitutional policies of Bush. As we speak, the Obama administration is pushing Congress to make it easier for federal authorities to wiretap online communications including emails, Facebook postings and internet phone calls.
Under Obama, the CIA drastically increased its bombing campaign in the mountains of Pakistan. According to the New York Times, the CIA has launched at least twenty attacks with armed drone aircraft so far in September, the most ever during a single month.
Not unlike Bush, Obama surrounded himself with the wrong people, who influenced him in the wrong direction. We talking about closeted neo-cons like Axelrod and Rahm Emanuel, along with straight up conservatives like Gates and Republican Lindsey Graham. A new book by The Washington Post’s Bob Woodward describes U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham as playing a central role in the formation and execution of President Barack Obama’s war policy in Afghanistan through his close ties to Vice President Joe Biden, Gen. David Petraeus and White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel. (So what do we know, Biden and Rahm Emanuel are pals of Lindsey Graham).
But we know this is not who Obama is. We heard recently that Obama had no intentions of being bogged down in that shit hole Afghanistan, and wasn’t going to buy the nation building crap peddled by Republicans and some Democrats.

So the man needs some brothers encouraging him to stay on the right path, despite all the fake ass liberals and right wingers within his inner circle.
Undoubtedly, this will be a daily hour-long talkathon that will be designed to remind the African-American radio public just how intelligent and articulate they are. They’ll be having some folks running to Webster’s dictionary to understand what they’re saying, but that’s part of their strategy. Sadly, they fail to realize that on EVERY one of the thousands of college or university campuses across American, there are professors and great thinkers with PHDs who have more publications and have done research than these two clowns. As a former college professor, I know that SECURE SCHOLARS frown on this type of cartoonic behavior! West thinks that soon after he received his PHd then they stopped awarding them.
