The Unsung documentary on Tammi Terrell was very good and informative. I have both books on Tammi Terrell and the new book on the Temptations. I’m telling you, David Ruffin was a tripp!!! So was James Brown. These men beat her butt on a regular.
GHank, I’ve read quite a few of the Motown books, who is the new Temptations book by? I liked Otis’ book, but reading it I wondered how much was his opinion, and David, Eddie and Paul weren’t around to defend themselves. I’m glad the doctor last night emphasized that Tammi did not likely die from damage caused by David Ruffin or James Brown.

Wale is conscious without being preachy; I like that. I used to really like KRS One even though he was never really mainstream. I just felt like I learned something every time he put out a new album.
Don’t get me wrong, I love to just have fun with the muscic but it never hurts to learn something at the same time. Common & Talib fill that void for me.
Morning Fam. Program went well yesterday…in my old hood about 30 kids got free haircuts…I pray we can serve about 50+ next time. It pretty much went off without a hiccup, I was so excited and thankful. We’ll be doing it again next month. OAN: the reporter that came and did the story on the program is cute(she did a great job btw), and she be giving me mad rhythm everytime I see her(not yesterday tho since kids were around I guess). You know how it is tho ion be wanting to think every lady that smile at me is flirting but I gave my card while she was there so she get at me about questions pertaining to the program. Well she called me, asked followup questions etc. About 15mins after we hang up she texts me…so I’m like welp…lets see how this goes…I text back. We go back and forth…with her final text to me saying “Well you know my number if you ever want to chat hang or talk stories

Juicy…went to JCPenney with mom yesterday. They had racks of booty at $1.97. I bought 2 pairs of shorts, a pair of capris, a pair of linen pants, 2 shirts, a scarf, the cutest hat and pair of jeans all for $42 and some change. I am now truly a convert.

OAN: I tried to deter all stories from deriving from this deal. I just wanted to serve the community and go to the house. Cuz once folk start doing stories then other folk start thinking thats what you’re doing for etc. Not taking account the hours gone into coordinating & sacrificing to make the program work. One the barbers I used IS MOSDEF a media whore, he mentioned to the cute reporter that we were doing this and it may be a good story. And thats how the media got involved. I talked to her(cute reporter) last friday letting her know that I personally didnt feel like we should be doin a story on this deal…and I felt like it may take away from the importance of it. Well apparently she aint listen and she came on out there…smh I just pray no one views it as a photo-op cuz that show’ll wasnt what the program was about…but I also know that people will find a reason to complain regardless if you’re doing something positive or not.
I meant “booty” in terms of pirate booty, not sobro booty.

SB – publicity can be a good thing. It might get more people who want to contribute to what you’re doing. That’s how we got a lot of stuff — people didn’t know about our organization until we went public with some of our events and now we get donations and all kinds of people wanting to help.

Love: thats what I’m hoping comes of this. We could mosdef use more barbers. I was sweating bullets there for a moment cuz we had a lot of kids come in all at once…but we got em done pretty steadily. So it wasnt too bad. I just know that some barbers in the city do this type of volunteer work occassionally and I aint want it to seem like we were the only ones giving of our times. I mentioned this to ‘cute reporter’ last night and she was just like…”whether you doing good or bad folks gone talk. They have every opportunity to contact us if they’re doing volunteer work in their communities as well. This is a good thing that should be highlighted.” With that in mind I guess it’s all good.

Good Morning EUR Fam! Tammi Terrell’s Unsung was the best one to date, IMO… it was very informative and that child did sooooo much in her short 24 years. Can you imagine the caliber of star she would have been had they caught the brain tumor much much earlier and been able to do something about it? She may have nixed Diana Ross’ solo career a bit….. Is she one of the few artists Motown did right by? I see they said that Motown paid all of her hospital/dr bills while she was being treated for her tumor. Sidenote: Ashford and Simpson were some bad songwriting muthafukkas back in the day huh? I knew they wrote a lot of classic timeless songs, but didn’t know they wrote most of the duets Marvin and Tammi sang so well…….
Lovely/Juicebox: I saw The Event last night and I am hooked. It is definitely one of those shows where you can not move from (except during commercials) because you might miss something.
SB – I’m mad you haven’t seen it by now. There are so many quotables in that movie!! You’re gonna be in HEAVEN!

I dvr’d it so that I could watch it closely over the weekend. I started watching and soon realized that s mind game was being hatched. I don’t have time for mind games during the week, especially on Monday.

You want to talk about Unsung heroes, Ashford & Simpson needs to be profiled. They did A LOT of stuff and you hardly ever hear of them. Roberta Flack is another person that never gets any credit, but has done a lot. When I was doing the song of the day, that was my philosophy behind that; to give artists their due even though people don’t hear that much about them today or don’t appriciate what they have done. Curtis Mayfield is another artist who needs to be profiled. A giant in the music industry, but you hardly ever hear about him today.
Lovely, I hope it doesn’t turn into that either, because this is one viewer they will lose.

DETROIT — Aretha Franklin’s son was severely beaten at a gas station in Detroit, the singing legend’s spokeswoman said Tuesday.
Eddie Franklin was attacked Monday night and was undergoing surgery at a hospital, Gwendolyn Quinn said in a statement. She said three people may have been involved in the attack, but did not address a possible motive.
Quinn told The Associated Press she didn’t have any additional information beyond the written statement.
Detroit police spokeswoman Eren Stephens said a female acquaintance was with Franklin just before the beating took place. The woman walked into the gas station, and when she returned, the assault had taken place, Stephens said.
Police said the woman then drove Franklin to the hospital, dropped him off and headed to a police station to file a report.
Stephens said investigators want to talk to Franklin about the circumstances of the attack once he’s able to speak to them.

Wednesday & Thursday fill up my doggone DVR. Modern Family comes back and I accidentally recorded ANTM and watched it so now I have to see who wins… It takes me an entire week just to watch Wed & Thurs shows (plus Y&R and Oprah).
