*Thirty-year-old U.S. Senate candidate, Natasha Pettigrew, of the Green Party was fatally hit by a car while riding her bike. The young politician was out training for a triathlon when a driver of an SUV hit her.
The driver of the vehicle, Christy R. Littleford, said she thought she hit a deer, but saw Pettigrew’s bike underneath her car after she arrived home.
“She had driven to her home and called from her home,” Greg Shipley, a Maryland State Police spokesman, told The Washington Post. “The initial indication was that she thought she may have hit a deer or an animal in the roadway. That’s the indication our troopers were given. When she arrived home and saw the bicycle, she assumed it was something else.”
Pettigrew died at 10:30 p.m. at Prince George’s County hospital. She graduated from Ohio State University and was taking a break from law school to run for the U.S. Senate.
