*Kali Hawk has signed on for the Tyler Perry-produced “We the Peeples,” the Lionsgate comedy that serves as the directorial debut of screenwriter Tina Gordon Chism.

The story follows what happens when a child psychologist (Craig Robinson) who, under the impression of his girlfriend’s family is impossibly perfect, surprises her (Kerry Washington) by showing up at the political family’s annual get-together at their Sag Harbor vacation home only to find them desperately in need of therapy.

Hawk plays Washington’s sister, a successful newscaster on CNN recently embedded with troops in Afghanistan.

As previously reported, Perry will produce the film through his 34th Street Films along with the company’s Ozzie Areu and Matt Moore. Paul Hall and Stephanie Allainare also producing.

“Peeples” begins shooting next month in Connecticut.
