Goldberg starred in the Steven Spielberg-directed film as the heroine Celie, while Winfrey played the proud Sophia. Both actresses earned Academy Award nominations for their respective roles.
Oprah’s “Color Purple” episode will also feature other members of the cast.
Also on “The View’ this morning, Whoopi’s boss and co-host Barbara Walters told the audience she will sit down with Oprah for a prime-time interview about the end of her talk show.
The hourlong special will air Dec. 9 on ABC, and will be followed by another Walters-hosted hour about the most fascinating people of 2010.
The Winfrey hour will include the TV titan talking about memorable moments in her 25-year-old show. She’s ending it at the close of this season and will focus attention on her own cable network.
