*Jon Stewart’s Comedy Central show may have a “senior black correspondent” in Larry Wilmore, but it’s the least diverse late night show on television, according to a graphic put together by an artist that examined the race and sex of guests compared to the general population over a six-week period this past August and September.
The artist, Bard Edlund, admits his study is imperfect, and numbers may be skewed because Stewart typically only has one guest on per night. Plus, guests who didn’t fall into the categories of White, Hispanic, Black or Asian were left off altogether, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
The graphic also shows that Stewart “The Daily Show” has the fewest number of women, followed closely by George Lopez’s “Lopez Tonight” and “Jimmy Kimmel Live!”
“The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson” has the most women.
Meanwhile, E!’s “Chelsea Lately” is the only show to have more Asian guests than census numbers suggest, which the artist attributes to her nightly round tables.
“Lopez Tonight” features the largest amount of Hispanic guests, but not by a wide margin, and the most black guests. It also features fewer white people than census data.
Meanwhile, another new study by FAIR (Fairness and Accuracy in Reporting) potions out that PBS, whose mission is to “see America whole, in all its diversity,” features shows with predominantly white male hosts and guests. For example, “NewsHour’s” guest list was 80 percent male and 82 percent white.
