*NPR senior news analyst Juan Williams was fired Wednesday night after making comments about Muslims during an appearance on Fox News Channel’s “The O’Reilly Factor,” the New York Times reported.
During Monday’s appearance on the show, Williams, who is also a political analyst for Fox News, was asked by host Bill O’Reilly to address to the idea that the U.S. is facing a “Muslim dilemma.”
“I mean, look, Bill, I’m not a bigot,” Williams said. “You know the kind of books I’ve written about the civil rights movement in this country. But when I get on the plane, I got to tell you, if I see people who are in Muslim garb and I think, you know, they are identifying themselves first and foremost as Muslims, I get worried. I get nervous.”
NPR said Williams’ remarks “were inconsistent with our editorial standards and practices and undermined his credibility as a news analyst with NPR.”
