*(LOS ANGELES, CA) – Playwright/Entertainer JD Lawrence celebrated Thanksgiving Day in his hometown of Amityville, New York, where he hosted thirty-seven local families for a traditional Thanksgiving turkey dinner at the Masonic Temple.  Mr. Lawrence, a community leader and philanthropist, has hosted this annual event for the past two years.

Mr. Lawrence and male volunteers dressed in formal tuxedos, served the families a full-course dinner, which included roast turkey, homemade corn bread stuffing and gravy, green beans, candied yams, cranberry sauce, pumpkin pies and peach cobbler.

“Thanksgiving has always been my favorite holiday of the entire year.  In the spirit of bringing families together on this very special day, it was my honor and privilege to host this dinner for deserving families in Amityville,” says Lawrence.

Mr. Lawrence will be the recipient of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Leadership Award at the Hollywood Full Gospel Baptist Cathedral Church in Amityville on January 17, 2011.  He is being honored for his longtime commitment to the community as a leader, humanitarian and philanthropist.
